Team U.S.A. begins preliminary round play in the World Junior Championships in Ottawa this afternoon against Germany. NHL Network is televising the game at 3:30 p.m. ET. Terrier defenseman and Team USA assistant captain Kevin Shattenkirk discussed his excitement about performing on a world-class stage in the WJCs and how that might impact his future hockey plans with a hometown newspaper. Darryl MacLeod was a member of the 1977-78 freshmen class, along with Mark Fidler, Bill Cotter, Tim Kimball and Paul Miller, that helped spark the Terriers to a 30-2-0 season and the third of BU’s four national championships. MacLeod’s daughter, Meredith, now is pursuing her own career on a combined Melrose-Watertown, Mass., high school team.
