Nieto hattrick leads USA past Czechs--UPDATED

2010 recruit Matt Nieto (photo) scored a hattrick and added an assist in the NTDP U18s' 5-2 win over the Czech Republic in the Six Nations tournament in Minsk, earning player of the game honors. Team USA finished second in the tournament with a 4-1 record, losing only to Russia, 2-1. Nieto, who previously had two shorthanded goals, finished the event with a 5-2-7 line, tops on Team USA and tied for first in goal-scoring for the entire tournament. He finished +9, best on Team USA. Nieto has a overall scoring line of 19-15-34, including international play. Teammate and fellow 2010 recruit Adam Clendening had four assists in the tournament.

Ironically, it wasn’t a highlight reel goal like those in Saturday’s post, but Chris Drury’s empty netter to seal the Rangers’ 5-2 win over Tampa Bay on Sunday enabled him to achieve a pair of milestones: 250 career goals and 600 career points.

One more interview clip from Saturday's win against Maine. Eric Gryba and Zach Cohen from The Boston Hockey Blog . Both made Hockey East's top performers of the week list, along with juniors Nick Bonino and Joe Pereira.

Terriers go into the final three weekends of the regular season with control of the final home ice spot in their own hands. If they win out, they'll be assured of at least fourth place in the standings.
