Short-handed goals push BU past Lowell

David Warsofsky (photo) and Zach Cohen scored short-handed goals in the first period as BU edged Lowell, 3-2, at Tsongas Arena. The win brought BU’s record to 11-11-3 and enabled the Terriers to tie the River Hawks for 6th place in Hockey East and also take the season’s series, 2-1. Lowell took an 1-0 lead that was matched by Ross Gaudet’s 8th goal followed by Cohen’s 9th and Warsofksy’s 7th. Lowell narrowed the gap in the second period, but was completely shut down in the third period when BU outshot their hosts 11-2. And after being decidedly on the short end of the face off battle for two periods, BU won 14 of 17 draws in the final period. Kieran Millan stopped 16 shots, while the Terriers had 33 shots plus Nick Bonino’s shot off the crossbar.
