Terriers walk the walk for Autism Speaks

Over the past several years, the Boston University hockey program has expanded its involvement with Autism Speaks, the nation’s largest autism science and advocacy organization, with players attending the annual Greater Boston Walk Now for Autism Speaks, hosting Autism Speaks Awareness nights during the season, printing ads, delivering public service announcements, and providing tickets to games and meet and greets with the players for individuals on the spectrum.

With this year’s Autism walk set for Sunday, September 26, 2010 at Suffolk Downs in East Boston, the team is taking its commitment to an even greater level by registering a walk team and raising funds for this cause. All event proceeds will support Autism Speaks’ work to increase awareness about the growing autism epidemic, fund innovative autism research and family services, and advocate for the needs of individuals with autism and their families.

►The college hockey community and many others will have sticks and fingers crossed this Wednesday when Yale forward Mandi Schwartz is scheduled to undergo a stem-cell transplant in her battle with acute myeloid lymphoma. The Saskatchewan native, whose brothers Jaden and Rylan skate for Colorado College, has been undergoing chemotherapy while a number of donor testing drives and bone marrow registration drives have been held. Former Yale men's hockey player Brennan Turner spearheaded a series of donor testing drives across Canada.
