Game Day--Terriers take on Notre Dame in Ice Breaker final


Terriers take on the Fighting Irish in the Warrior Ice Breaker championship game today at 3 p.m. CT/4 p.m. ET. Notre Dame defeated Holy Cross Friday to advance to the final. Junior co-captain Dave Warsofsky (photo) scored a goal and an assist in BU's 4-3 win over Wisconsin in the opening round.

BU has played Notre Dame four times previously, with each team winning twice. The first meeting was in 1970 at the Boston Arena Christmas Tournament, with the Terriers winning, 7-3. A year ago BU faced Notre Dame at Agganis Arean with the Irish taking a 3-0 win.

►The Terrier Women’s team earned its second win of the season with a 6-2 win over Union College at Walter Brown Arena. Junior transfer Jenn Wakefield scored twice and added an assist. After three games, she leads the team in scoring with a 5-3-8 line.

2011 recruit Cason Hohmann scored his first regular season goal of this USHL campaign in Cedar Rapids’ 5-2 win against Fargo.

2013 recruit Matt Grzelcyk scored his first point of the season in the NTDP U17s 4-1 loss to Dubuque.

John McCarthy made his first NHL appearance of the season in the San Jose Shark’s 3-2 loss to Columbus in Stockholm, Sweden.

Kevin Shattenkirk scored a shoot-out goal in the Lake Erie Monsters’ 2-1 win against Syracuse in AHL action. He was one of six ex-Terriers on the ice, along with Colby Cohen, Zach Cohen and Dave Van der Gulik of the Monsters and Nick Bonino and Joe DiPenta of the Crunch. Inside Hockey discusses the return to health of several key N.Y. Islander players including former Terrier netminder Rick DiPietro, who was in goal for the Isles 5-4 opening-night shootout loss to Dallas, 5-4.
