Game Day—Exhibition game vs. Univ. of Toronto

The offseason is over. One day after officially beginning practice, the Terriers will meet the University of Toronto in an exhibition game tonight in 7 p.m. start at Agganis Arena. Associate Head Coach Mike Bavis (photo) will be filling in behind the bench while Jack Parker, recovering from summer bypass surgery, has not yet received medical clearance to resume full activities.

According to a game preview from WTBU's Greg Picker, each of the Terrier goalies, Kieran Millan, Grant Rollheiser and Adam Krause can be expected to share the goaltending duties tonight.

BU is offering a free trial of its All-Access game Webcast service and gametracker will follow the action as well. The Boston Hockey Blog will be live-blogging tonight's game, beginning at 6 p.m. EDT.

As the season unfolds, NESN.com spoke with co-captains Joe Pereira and Chris Connolly and assistant captain Dave Warsofsky about the team's goals and challenges ahead. BU Today checks in with Pereira, the only senior skater, about the upcoming campaign and his first three seasons as a Terrier. Warsofsky has been named to the Preseason All Hockey East team. The Terriers were ranked fourth in the annual Hockey East Coaches Poll.

Coach Parker and the other Hockey East coaches were interviewed as part of Wednesday's Media Day:

Looking ahead
2011 recruit Matt O'Connor turned aside 29 of 31 shots for Youngstown in the Phantom's 3-2 overtime win again Des Moines in their USHL regular season opener last night. Four other future Terriers will be in action in USHL games tonight: Cason Hohmann and Anthony DeAngelo with Cedar Rapids, Alexx Privitera with Muskegon and Adam Erne with Indiana.

2012 recruit Robert Polesello, playing for Vaughan in the OPJHL, returned to the Vipers' lineup after missing five games with an injury, registering assists in his first two games. One of only two 1994 birthdates on the Vipers' roster, the 5-7 Polesello had a strong preseason and was named to Canada's Team East evaluation camp for the World Junion A Challenge.

Looking back
Matt Gilroy is not the only walk-on to become captain of the Terriers. In 1993-94, Doug Friedman was named captain, leading BU to its second NCAA championship game in four years. Today, Friedman, who later played in the NHL for Edmonton and Nashville, is coaching the Portland Jr. Pirates 98/99 Selects of the Valley Hockey League of Massachusetts who are off to a 3-0 start. Friedman's son, Jaxon, is a goalie for the Pirates.

The Nashville Predators expect second year pro Colin Wilson to assume a larger role in the team's offense this season. The Tennessean talked with him about how his father, former NHLer Carey Wilson, helped him develop his highly regarded on-ice instincts, and about playing wing rather than center.

Nick Bonino assisted on a pair of goals in the Syracuse Crunch's 5-2 exhibition win over Wilkes Barre. He's joined on the roster of the Anaheim Ducks' AHL affiliate by former Terrier Joe DiPenta, who was a member of the 2006-07 Stanley Cup winning Ducks and is seeking to return to the NHL.

Women's team begins season
The Terrier Women's Team kicks off its season today and tomorrow with a pair of games against North Dakota in Grand Forks. The matchups will be something of an Olympic reunion as BU's Marie-Philip Poulin and Catherine Ward, members of the Canadian team, will be opposing the Sioux's Jocelyne and Monique Lamoureux, who skated for the U.S. squad in Vancouver.
