On the heels of David Quinn being named an Avalanche assistant to Joe Sacco, there have been two more coaching moves with BU ties.

UMass coach Don “Toot” Cahoon, a former Terrier forward and later an assistant to Jack Parker, has stepped down after a dozen years behind the Minutemen bench. Cahoon led UMass to the program's first NCAA tournament appearance in 2006-07. As a player, he was a speed-burning forward and a key contributor to BU’s back-to-back NCAA titles in 1971 and 1972. His other coaching stops included Princeton and Norwich.
●  College Hockey News has additional details on this surprising development.

Blaise MacDonald, a former BU associate head coach and Niagara and Lowell head coach, has assumed the head spot at Division 3 Colby College. MacDonald has spent last season assisting Cahoon in Amherst. Legendary BU coach Jack Kelley led the Mules for seven years and each NCAA Coach of the Year recognition before beginning his ten-year stint at BU.

Looking ahead
Incoming freshman Matt Grzelcyk was named to the evaluation camp roster for the U.S. Junior National team, which will compete in the World Junior Championships next December and January. Evaluation camp takes place in Lake Placid beginning August 4.

United States of Hockey has profiled the draft-eligible players on the camp roster, including Grzelcyk.

Grzelcyk, 2013 recruit Brendan Collier and Harvard recruit Jimmy Vescey grew up paying youth hockey in Charlestown. The Boston Herald talked with Vescey’s dad, Jim Vescey, who along with former BU standout Mark Fidler, coached the trio during their Middlesex Islander days.

Thanks to one of our readers who forwarded links to two profiles of 2013 recruit Robbie Baillargeon, one from NHL.com and one for New England Hockey Journal.

Looking back
The Examiner reports that Nashville wants to re-sign third-year pro Colin Wilson, who is a restricted free agent.
