Megan leads Terriers past Merrimack, 3-1 UPDATED

Captain Wade Megan had a hand in each Terrier goal as BU beat Merrimack, 3-1, at Lawlor Arena. Freshman Ahti Oksanen opened the scoring early in the second period one-timing a Cason Hohmann pass, followed seven minutes later by Megan’s team-leading fifth goal of the season assisted by freshman Matt Grzelcyk, who now has seven helpers.

Merrimack cut the lead in half on a power play 14 seconds into the final period, but sophomore Evan Rodrigues, who had pinged a post in the first period, restored the two-goal margin midway through the final stanza. BU protected the 3-1 lead with freshman Matt O’Connor turning aside the final dozen Warrior shots, stopping 34 overall for his fifth victory.

Coach Jack Parker:

"One of the reasons why Rodrigues and Hohmann, two sophomores, are having real good jumps is because Megan’s playing so well with them as a senior and a captain. Having him on their left wing makes things go. I thought he played great tonight. He might’ve been the best player on the ice for us, not just because he figured in the scoring, but because he was up and down all night. He really had his legs. He played really well delivering the puck to the net. He really led the way for us tonight, I thought.”

► Terriers showed a marked improvement on facings, winning 39 of 70. Hohmann won 14 of 23.

Terriers fell 4-2 to New Hampshire in Durham. BU fell behind, 3-0, before rallying with goals by Kaleigh Fratkin and Louis Warren. UNH closed the scored with an empty-netter.
