Four Terriers were named to the list of top Hockey East performers for the first week of play. Sean Maguire kicked out 39 of 40 shots in the opening night win against UMass. Defensemen Ahti Okasanen and Garrett Noonan scored four and three points respectively in the two wins and Evan Rodrigues notched a goal and an assist against UMass.

BU moved up in the USCHO weekly poll from #19 to #15.

The Big Ten Hockey East Challenge kicks off this weekend, with three Big Ten teams visiting Hockey East venues this weekend.  BU’s Saturday night tilt against #2-ranked Wisconsin is one of six challenge games on tap this week. Details

Former BU captain Nick Bonino scored his second goal of the season off a draw to the Ottawa goalie’s right as Anaheim bested the Senators, 4-1.  Video

A pair of former Terriers—the Blues‘ Kevin Shattenkirk and the Sharks’ Matt Nieto—will be on the ice tonight when two unbeaten teams clash in a nationally televised game. Shattenkirk, a staple on the St. Louis blueline and also a strong candidate for the U.S. Olympic team, talked with USA Today’s Kevin Allen about why this early-season game has a bit of a playoff feel.

Former Terrier defenseman Keith Emery tweeted this photo recognizing the 50^th birthday of former BU captain Peter Marshall, whose MVP performance paced BU’s First Hockey East Championship in 1986.  Check out mh82’s Terrier Tale in the sidebar.

John Curry, a first-team All-American goalie and Hobey Baker Award finalist in 2007, has signed on with the AHL Iowa Wild. A few days earlier he had filled in with the Minnesota Wild in a team practice when one goalie went down.

Women’s team

Sophomore Rebecca Russo, with three goals and an assist during the Terriers’ opening weekend, earned her co-player of the week honors from Hockey East. Named to the weekly top performers list were Seniors Kerrin Sperry (.938 save %) and Kaleigh Fratkin and sophomore Jordan Juron.

The Terriers were a perfect 10-for-10 on the penalty kill en route to a tie and win this past weekend.

BU's ranking in the USCHO weekly poll remained at #7.
