Goalie
Matt O’Connor carried a shutout late into the third period and turned aside 37
shots as BU defeated #14 North Dakota, 3-1, at Agganis Arena. The 6-5 goalie
earned first-star honors as he improved his record to 5-2 in seven starts.
Terriers evened their record a 6-6-0 with what NBC Sports Radio analyst Tom Ryan called "their best effort of the year."
BU
got on the board midway through the opening period when Cason Hohmann took a
feed from Matt Lane and whipped a shot from the left dot past UND’s Clarke
Saunders.
Seven
minutes later Danny O’Regan converted the rebound of a Garrett Noonan shot on a
power play, with Ahti Oksanen also assisting.
While
there was no scoring in the middle period, BU had one called back when it was
ruled that Mike Moran’s redirect of a Doyle Somerby blast was done with a high
stick.
In
the third period with BU on an abbreviated power play, freshman Kevin Duane
scored his second goal in two games, banging home the rebound of Matt Grzelcyk’s
shot for a 3-0 Terrier lead.
North
Dakota’s top scorer, Rocco Grimaldi, ruined O’Connor’s shut out with 2:37 left
when he popped one home from the left circle.
The
win proved costly as Hohmann left the game in the first period with a shoulder
injury (video) that will keep him sidelined for what Coach David Quinn described as “a
while.” He added:
“I thought we were pretty thorough from start to finish. There were some lapses where I thought they controlled the play a little bit, but we minimized those stretches and did a lot of good things tonight.”
BU
converted 2 of 7 power plays while killing both UND man advantages. Terriers
also held a 34-31 edge on faceoffs.

ahead
2014
recruit Jack Eichel scored his team-leading 14th goal for the NTDP
U18s who outscored Waterloo, 8-6.
He added an assist and now has a 14-16-30 line in 16 games. Fellow 2014 recruit
Johnathan MacLeod also notched an assist.
2015
recruit Maxim Letunov scored his seventh goal of the season on a power play,
assisted by 2014 recruit JJ Piccinich, but the Youngstown Phantoms fell in a
shootout to Lincoln, 4-3.

Warsofsky assisted on two goals as AHL Providence beat Bridgeport in a
shootout, 4-3.
Former
BU goalie and Hockey East Player of the Year John Curry has been recalled
to the Wild’s AHL affiliate in Iowa.

Team

Terriers suffered their second consecutive setback to a highly ranked team,
dropping a 3-1 verdict to #5/6 Harvard in Cambridge. BU outshot the Crimson,
35-32, but fell behind, giving up a goal in each period. Sophomore Rebecca
Russo’s third-period goal enabled BU to avert a shutout. It was her sixth score
of the season.
