Tuesday Linkorama



Goalie Matt O’Connor and forward Robbie Baillargeon earned spots on Hockey East’s Weekly Top Performers List.

CORRECTION: Terriers return to the ice on Saturday night at 7 p.m. for their first-ever meeting with Bentley.

On Sunday, Dec. 8, The Friends of BU Hockey held the annual Skate With The Terrriers event at Agganis Arena. 
 

Looking ahead
In his second start since joining the USPHL Portland Junior Pirates, 2014 recruit Shane Starrett turned aside 34 of 35 shots in a 3-1 victory over Islanders Hockey Club. The Providence Journal's @markdivver tweeted: Major upgrade for last-place Portland of USPHL, adding BU recruit Shane Starrett. Made 34 saves in 3-1 win over Islanders on Sun.



2015 recruit Vasili Kolias (photo) scored the first two goals for Chicago Mission U18s in Sunday's game against Compuware, then added three assists in a 9-3 romp. The day before, he assisted on two goals, including the game-winner, as the Chicago Mission edged Rocky Mountain, 3-2, in High Performance League action. The defenseman from Schaumberg, IL, (also hometown of former Terrier Zach Cohen) has 14 points (4g, 10a) in 17 HPL games.  

Twenty-three games into their season, a pair of Terriers recruits are among the scoring leaders for the Shattuck St. Mary Prep squad. 2014 recruit Chase Phelps has an 8-16-24 line, while 2016 recruit Clayton Keller—one of only two sophomores on the team—has 11 goals and 11 assists.

Looking back
After two games with Worcester, Matt Nieto travelled West to rejoin the San Jose Sharks after being recalled from the AHL affiliate.

Former BU captain Chris Connolly, who had played for the past year and a half with Tappara Tampere in the Finnish Elite League, has been acquired by the Iserlohn Roosters of the German DEL. Earlier this fall, Connolly was on Team USA, coached by Jack Parker, which won the Deutschland Cup tournament in Munich.

Women’s Team
The Terriers’ three wins—beating Northeastern and then sweeping Minnesota-Duluth earned them the #8 ranking in the USCHO poll and Hockey East Team of the Week honors.  Sophomore wing Sarah Lefort, who scored seven goals—including a hat trick again NU—and added four assists, was named Hockey East Player of the Week. She now leads the nation in goals with 15, is tied for the conference points lead with 25, and is tied with linemate Louise Warren at second in the country in game-winning goals with four.

Warren, who had nine points (5g,4a) in the three games made the weekly top performers list, joined by freshman goalie Victoria Hanson and junior defenseman Shannon Stoneburgh. Warren (+18), Lefort (+18) and freshman Samantha Sutherland (+16) are 1-2-3 in the league in plus-minus.

The Eagle Tribune talked with Terrier Head Coach Brian Durocher about the development of his standout senior goalie Kerrin Sperry, beginning with her early recruitment at U.S. national camp and Lawrence Academy and  throughout four varsity seasons. The North Andover, Mass., native, who has backstopped BU to two Hockey East tournament titles and two national championship game appearances during the past three seasons, currently sports a 12-2-1 record with a gaudy 1.86 GAA and a .939 save percentage, both tops in the conference.

The first-place Terriers are on semester break with their next action coming January 4 at home against Dartmouth .
