Warsofsky makes NHL debut


Former Terrier David Warsofsky was recalled from Providence by the Bruins and made his first NHL start in the Bs 4-2 loss to the Sabres Thursday night in Buffalo.  The Marshfield, Mass., native had 12:29 in ice time and finished -1 with one blocked shot.

He becomes the sixth defenseman—and 10th skater—from BU’s 2008-09national championship team to reach the NHL. The other blueliners: Kevin Shattenkirk (St. Louis), Brian Strait (Islanders), Eric Gryba (Ottawa), Matt Gilroy (currently in the AHL with San Antonio) and Colby Cohen (currently rehabbing an injury).  The four forwards:Colin Wilson (Nashville), Nick Bonino (Anaheim), John McCarthy (San Jose) and Brandon Yip (currently with AHL/Portland)

Seven other team members are playing in the minors or overseas: Chris Higgins (Belfast Giants/EIHL),  Chris Connolly (Iserhohn/DEL), Zach Cohen  (Olofström/Sweden), Vinny Saponari (Milwaukee/AHL), Corey Trivino (Stockton/ECHL), Kieran Millan (Denver/CHL) and Grant Rollheiser (Brampton, CHL)

Looking ahead
2015 recruit Charles McAvoy is on the 22-man Team USA roster that will compete in the 2014 World U17 Challenge in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, beginning on Dec. 28. The 5-11 blueliner from Long Beach, N.Y., has a 3-3-6 line in 25 games this season.
