IBUH Episode 25; One Day to the Frozen Four

Episode 25 of Inside BU Hockey features Bernie Corbett’s interviews with Coach David Quinn, former Terrier captain and All-American John Danby and Tim Hennessy, Corbett’s counterpart as the voice of North Dakota hockey.

Danby was a standout scorer for three seasons racking up 160 points (79 G, 81A) and helping to lead BU to back-to-back NCAA titles in 1971 and 1972. A deadly shooter and co-scoring leader on the ‘71-‘72 squad, Danby scored hat tricks in two of three ECAC playoff games to earn MVP honors. After BU, he followed his Terrier coach, Jack Kelley, to the New England Whalers of the fledging WHA, scoring 37 points as the Whalers won the AVCO Cup as the league's champions. In the late 1970s he served as an assistant on Jack Parker’s staff for two seasons and was inducted into the BU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1988.

► Coach David Quinn was the runner-up to Minnesota State's Mike Hastings for the ACHA Spencer Penrose Award as top Division 1 coach.

►Steve Thornton, MVP of the 1995 national champion Terriers, is now Director of Hockey Operations for the Belfast Giants, who will host a college hockey tournament in Belfast next November, featuring Northeastern, Lowell, Brown and Colgate.

2015 NHL Draft

Central Scouting’s final rankings were issued today. Among North American skaters, freshman Jack Eichel remained at #2. Also ranked were: 2015 recruit Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson #31 (photo); 2015 recruit Jordan Greenway #47; freshman AJ Greer #69; 2016 recruit John McDermott #106; and freshman Brien Diffley # 136.

Looking ahead

Three future Terriers are on the 23-man roster of the U.S. National U18 team that will defend its IIHF World U18 Championship in Switzerland beginning April 16. 2015 recruits Jordan Greenway (8G, 29A) and Charlie McAvoy (7G, 27A), who have spent the full season with the NTDP U18s, are joined by 2016 recruit Clayton Keller, a recent call-up from the U17s, where he led the team in scoring with 59 points (25G, 34A).

Women’s Team

Captain Marie-Philip Poulin, Sarah Lefort and Shannon Doyle have been named New England Hockey Writers Association All-Stars.
