Terrier trio pace Prospects Challenge win for BU-ffalo UPDATED




Three former Terriers made their presence felt in the Sabres win over New Jersey in this weekend's Prospects Challenge tournament. Jack Eichel and Evan Rodrigues set up Buffalo’s first goal, just 25 seconds (video) after the first puck drop. Three minutes later, E-Rod assisted on his team’s second goal, In the second period Cason Hohnman deflected a goal home and then Rodrigues added a marker of his own to make the score 5-0 after two periods.

Looking ahead
 

USHL action began Saturday night with several Terrier prospects hitting the score sheets. In the NTDP U18s 4-1 win against Bloomington. 2016 recruit Kieffer Bellows, who was USHL Rookie of the Year last season, scored his first goal (video below) wearing Team USA colors, assisted by fellow 2016 recruit Clayton Keller, and it proved to be the game-winner. Another 2016 recruit, Jake Oettinger (photo), who has grown to 6’4” and 201 lbs., was strong in goal for the U18s, stopping 29 of 30 shots.

On Sunday, the Bellows-Keller combination produced another goal in the U18s' 3-2 win against Muskegon with Bellows notching his 2nd of the year early in the third period. Oettinger was between the pipes again for Team USA, making 17 saves.

The U17s dropped a 5-4 decision to Muskegon in overtime with two future Terriers hitting the score sheet. 2018 recruit Logan Cockerill (photo) assisted on a first-period power play goal and scored in the second period, assisted by 2017 recruit Brady Tkachuk.

Both NTDP squads are back in action today.
