Inside BU Hockey Episode 7; Warsofsky recalled to Penguins

Episode 7 of Inside BU Hockey features Bernie Corbett’s interviews with Head Coach David Quinn, freshman center Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson and former Terrier defenseman Chris Kelleher.

JFK, who came to BU after two standout seasons with the USHL Omaha Lancers, where he was named co-MVP of the 2015 USHL/NHL top prospects game, is second on the Terriers in points with 11 (3G, 8A) and now centers BU’s top line. A second-round pick of the Bruins in the 2015 entry draft, he was named Hockey East Rookie of the Week after a four-point weekend against Providence. (Video)

Kelleher, a Belmont, Massachusetts native, was a two-time second-team All-American who played in three Frozen Fours, including 1995 when BU beat Maine for its fourth NCAA title. His professional career included seasons with AHL affiliates of Pittsburgh and Boston and with the German DEL, as well as one NHL start with his hometown Bruins. He is currently a pro scout for the Minnesota Wild.

With former Terrier Charlie Coyle and the Minnesota Wild getting some ice time at Agganis Arena Wednesday prior to tonight’s match-up with the Bruins, freshman Jordan Greenway, a Wild second-round pick in the 2015 draft, took in the session along with two other Wild draft picks from “up the block.”

NESN/ASN college hockey analyst Billy Jaffe tweeted:
@Russostrib did BU/PC game last Friday and Greenway was best player on ice for either team

A video posted on Hockeysfuture.com focuses on 2016 recruit Clayton Keller, who along with fellow recruits Kieffer Bellows, Chad Krys and Jake Oettinger, led the NTDP U18s past Youngstown last Friday.  Oettinger has a 1.72 GAA and a .929 save percentage in four USHL games this season, the latest being the 3-0 shutout of Youngstown.

SB Nation’s Jeff Cox reported on the New England Midget Championships held last weekend and offers insights on the top 16U players including 2019 recruit Joel Farabee (video) and 2018 recruit Jack DeBoer.
Farabee, Joel— Selects Academy #28 - LW - 5'10" 150 - 2/25/00 (Boston University)
Saturday did nothing to dispel my feelings he's one of top ‘00s in U.S., maybe only behind [BU 2018 recruit] Jake Wise. He's shifty and can really hold onto the puck. He has exceptional awareness in offensive zone and can move the puck. He's a setup guy who mans the point on the power play. The puck goes through him. His skating is exceptional.
DeBoer, Jack—Yale National #11 - RC - Salisbury School - 6'2" 175 - 8/17/00 (Boston University)
He's a big kid who cycles well behind the cage. He still needs to learn to take the puck to the net and finish, but his size is a threat and he does a good job getting pucks into the scoring zone. He projects to be a much better player than the level he is consistently playing at currently.

DeBoer and the Yale Midgets won the 16U title, defeating Farabee’s Selects Academy squad, while 2016 recruit John McDermott (photo) and the Mid-Fairfield Rangers took the 18U championship. Both teams will play in the Nationals in San Jose next Spring.

Looking back
NHL.com’s Mike Morreale checked in with Travis Roy, who has been tracking the progress of NHL rookies Jack Eichel and Connor McDavid. Roy noted:
"I was just amazed how complete a player he was at such a young age at Boston University . I was amazed with how much better he got from the beginning of the season to the end. I've just never seen somebody that is that good at 17 years old.”
Former Terrier and defenseman David Warsofsky has been recalled by the Penguins from AHL Wilkes Barre/Scranton. He joins former Terrier teammates Nick Bonino and Adam Clendening on Pittsburgh’s roster. In November of 2010, the Avalanche had four Terriers on the roster: Kevin Shattenkirk, Colby Cohen, David Van der Gulik and Brandon Yip. And, former Terrier Joe Sacco was the team’s head coach.

Warsofsky previously played 10 NHL games with the Bruins, scoring one goal (video) and adding a pair of assists.

Kevin Shattenkirk’s first goal of the season put St. Louis up early, but it was all the Blues could muster in a 3-1 loss to Columbus.
