IBUH #9; McAvoy profile; 3 recruits named to Youth Olympics squad

Episode 9 of Inside BU Hockey features Bernie Corbett’s interviews with Head Coach David Quinn, sophomore A.J. Greer and former Terrier captain, All-American and Hobey Baker Award finalist Jay Pandolfo.   Quebec native Greer is coming off a 2-point (1G, 1A) performance in the Red Hot Hockey tie against Cornell, earning first-star honors. Before arriving at BU, he scored 92 points in two seasons at Kimball Union Academy, where he teamed with current Terriers Doyle Somerby and Nick Roberto.

Pandolfo scored 167 points (78G, 89A) in four seasons at BU, reaching the Frozen Four each year and winning a national championship in 1995. Most of his 18 year professional career was spent with the Devils with whom he won the Stanley Cup in 2000 and in 2003, when he scored 12 points in 24 playoff games. He finished his career with his hometown Bruins and was named Director of Player Development for the Bruins this past September.

Danny O’Regan, who rang up three goals and nine assists in November, was runner up for HE Warrior Hockey Player of the Month honors.

The roster for the USA Hockey Junior National Team selection camp has yet to be announced, but predictions for the final team rosters have begun to appear. SB Nation’s Chris Dilks projects a squad that would include current Terrier Charlie McAvoy and 2016 recruits Clayton Keller and Chad Krys, both of whom would be under-agers. The Junior National Team training camp will be held at BU's Walter Brown Arena beginning Dec. 15 with practices open to the public.

NHL.com’s Mike Morreale spoke with McAvoy (photo), who is this week’s Top Prospect  Profile. The 6’1” right-shot defenseman received an A rating on the new Central Scouting Watch List and is projected by multiple draft services to be a first-round selection in the June 2016 entry draft. The youngest player in D1 hockey this year, McAvoy is one of two NCAA skaters to receive an A rating.
[NHL Scouting’s David] Gregory believes playing for Quinn will only help enhance his game, similar to how Jack Eichel progressed with the Terriers in 2014-15. "He has a real pro game to him."

Terriers begin a two-game home series with Vermont tomorrow night. The Vermont Cynic examines the Catamounts’ slow start this season.
