Former BU captain Mike Sullivan gained his first win as Pittsburgh’s head coach as the Penguins beat Columbus, 5-2. David Warsofsky notched his first goal as a Penguin, blasting home a power play shot, while Nick Bonino assisted on a pair of Phil Kessel goals.

Staying with the Pittsburgh organization, former Terrier standout, Bruin and U.S. Olympian Clark Donatelli has been promoted to head coach of the Penguins’ AHL affiliate in Wilkes Barre/Scranton. The Rhode Island native, who played seven pro seasons, including 35 NHL games, and was on two US Olympic squads, fills the slot vacated by Sullivan when he assumed the top spot in Pittsburgh. He scored 135 points in three BU seasons and was a teammate of Sullivan, BU Head Coach David Quinn and Assistant Coach Scott Young.

Kevin Shattenkirk scored his fifth goal of the season in the Blues’ 4-3 loss to Philadelphia. The former BU captain All-American has a 5-16-21 scoring line in 25 games.

Former BU All-American Colin Wilson scored a goal and assisted on two others as Nashville thumped Montreal, 5-1.

During a recent Predators’ visit to TD Garden, Wilson was featured in a Hockey East Alumni Spotlight video.

Charlie Coyle scored his seventh goal of the season and added an assist for Minnesota in the Wild’s 6-3 loss to Dallas.  The forward from East Weymouth, Massachusetts earned first-star honors.

While Brian Strait didn’t have any points in the Islanders 5-2 win against Anaheim on Monday, New York Coach Jack Capuano said he was the team’s top defenseman in the win.

Matt O’Connor turned aside 21 of 22 shots for Binghamton in a 2-1 win over Lehigh Valley.

Dante Fabbro, D – Penticton Vees (BCHL): Jost and Fabbro will get mentioned together a lot this year and both are enticing prospects. Fabbro is a smart, confident blueliner who controlled the puck more than most forwards in the WJAC game I attended and locally, he is killin’ it with the Vees to the tune of 38 points in 24 games. Fabbro is a Boston University commit.

Team USA won its exhibition game against host Finland, 3-2. Freshman defenseman Charlie McAvoy (photo) was paired with 2016 recruit Chad Krys and both were plus-2 for the game. Sophomore Brandon Fortunato and 2016 recruit Clayton Keller also saw action for Team USA, which begins preliminary round action on Saturday against Canada. The game will be televised on the NHL Network at 1 p.m. ET.
