Oksanen and Leslie claim Hockey East Player of the Week honors--UPDATED



Senior forward Ahti Oksanen, with a pair of goals and four assists in the two-game sweep of Maine, earned Hockey East’s Warrior Player of the Week honors. Senior Sean Maguire, with a sparkling 1.50 GAA and .947 save percentage for the two games, and freshman Jordan Greenway, with four assists and a +4, were named to the weekly top performers list.

Terriers moved up to #9 in the USCHO weekly poll and to #10 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.

The Beanpot Luncheon was held today at TD Garden where David Quinn and Matt Grzelcyk joined the coaches and captains from BC, Harvard and Northeastern. BU, which has won 30 of the previous 63 Beanpot tournaments and is the defending champion, takes on Northeastern in a first round matchup on Monday, Feb. 1.

Looking ahead

The Draft Analysts presents a 2016 NHL Draft Close-up on the NTDP's Lethal Duo--2016 recruits and linemates Clayton Keller and Kieffer Bellows. Keller leads the U18s with 71 points, while Bellows (photo) has a team-high 28 goals.
For the second game in a row, 2018 recruit Jake Wise scored twice and added two assists as Central Catholic defeated Hingham HS, 4-2, on Saturday. Earlier in the week, the left-shot center from North Andover also had 2+2 in a 10-0 rout of Acton-Boxboro. Wise, who is averaging two points a game over 14 games with 13 goals and 15 assists, will skate with Team USA in the Youth Olympics in Norway next month, along with fellow 2018 recruits Tyler Weiss and Jack DeBoer.

Looking back
Billy Cotter, a gritty right wing on BU’s 1978 national championship team passed away last Friday. A Charlestown, Mass., native, he captained Matignon to the state high school championship in 1977. Cotter scored 84 points (30G, 54A) in four varsity seasons.

Former Terrier assistant captain Cason Hohmann scored a pair of goals in ECHL Elmira’s 3-2 win against Norfolk. Hohmann leads the Jackals, a Sabres affiliate, in goals with 13 and points with 28.

Women’s Team
Terriers completed a sweep of Providence, doubling up the Friars, 4-2, at Schneider Arena on Sunday. After falling behind, 2-0, BU connected four times in the second period, getting goals from juniors Rebecca Russo and Maddie Elia, sophomore Victoria Bach and freshman Mary Grace Kelley, who scored her first collegiate goal. Erin O’Neil saved 29 shots to gain her 10th win.

Leslie’s six-point performance (2G, 4A) in the two games against Providence was top in the nation this past weekend and earned her Hockey East’s Player of the Week recognition. The sophomore from Ottawa leads the Terriers with 36 points and has been on the score sheet in 11 of the past 12 games. Kelley and Victoria Hanson were named to the weekly top performers list.
