Terriers announce staff changes; issue 2016-17 roster and prospectus

BU Hockey has announced staff changes and has posted bios of the nine-member freshman class, along with the full 2016-17 roster. A team prospectus also was issued.

Brittany Miller, a five-season team manager during her undergrad and graduate years, is the new Director of Hockey Operations, and becomes the first female hired in a full-time role on a D1 men's ice hockey staff. She replaces former BU defenseman Chris Dyment, who departed to pursue coaching opportunities.  It’s been reported that Dyment is now an assistant coach with the USPHL Islanders Hockey Club.

Brian Ecklund succeeds Mike Geragosian as volunteer assistant coach for goalies, after spending the past three seasons working with Harvard’s netminders. A standout goalie at Brown, Ecklund reached the NHL with Tampa Bay and earned a ring when the Lightning won the 2004 Stanley Cup. He's also the founder and head director of the MassCrease goalie school in Norwell, Mass. Geragosian had spent 17 seasons working with Terrier goalies.

With Sean Skahan having accepted the strength & conditioning coaching position with the NHL Minnesota Wild, BU has added Kyle Czech to the staff. He joins BU from Prentiss Hockey Performance where he worked with NHL players under PICP Level 5 strength coach Ben Prentiss, who will serve as a consultant to the Terrier program.

The nine freshmen join eight sophomores, six juniors and three seniors, making BU again one of the youngest squads in the nation. The 26-man team is led by senior captain and defenseman Doyle Somerby (photo) and two assistants, junior wing Nikolas Olsson and sophomore center Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson.

Looking ahead

Four highly-regarded 2000 birthdate Terrier recruits will hit the ice Friday when the NTDP U17s open their season, hosting Muskegon. 2018 recruits Jake Wise, Tyler Weiss, Joel Farabee (photo) and Jack DeBoer make up one-third of the U17s forward contingent.

Looking back

Preliminary games for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey are underway and Team North America, featuring former Terrier All-America and Hobey Baker Award winner Jack Eichel, takes the ice tonight against Team Europe. Game time is 8 p.m. ET and it will air on ESPN2.
