Harper and Keller earn HE weekly awards; BU 3rd in USA poll--UPDATED

Freshman Patrick Harper’s five-goal, two assist effort against Prince Edward Island Saturday earned him the season’s first Warrior Hockey East Player of the Week Award. Classmate Clayton Keller, who scored once in each period for a hat trick, takes home the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week Award.

Terrier Takeaway

Blog contributor buoldtimer offers the season’s first Terrier Takeaway, following the PEI game:.
While reading these comments, please bear in mind two mitigating factors:
1. The level of competition was far below that of Hockey East.
2. The flow of the game was very uneven and disjointed due to the number of penalties that were called. Nonetheless...
1. BU’s freshman forwards showed high-end speed and finesse, which is easy to say about guys who combined for eight goals.
2. Jake Oettinger stood tall during a couple of five-on-three PK's, including a nice stop on a breakaway and during a major penalty kill.
3. Dante Fabbro and Brandon Hickey (photo) worked well as the point pairings on a couple of power plays. Charlie McAvoy and Chad Krys were the other PP point duo.
4. BU looked a little loose in its own end of the ice.
5. In addition to the power play (which went 6 of 11), McAvoy played a strong game.
6. BU did a nice job on the PK, killing 12 of 14.

The Daily Free Press’s Jonathan Sigal offered three thoughts from Saturday’s win.

The Grand Forks Herald looked at four impact NCAA freshmen—including Keller and Kieffer Bellows—with the potential to emulate Jack Eichel and Michigan's Kyle Conner and lead the nation in scoring as rookies.

Looking ahead

2017 recruit Logan Cockerill scored the only goal for the NTDP U18s in a 5-1 loss to Notre Dame on Sunday.  The left-wing from Brighton, Michigan, has a point in each of the past three games.
