Game Day: BU vs. Harvard for all the Beans--UPDATED



#4 Terriers will face off with #3 Harvard tonight—weather permitting—for the 65th Beanpot Championship at TD Garden. Puck drop is set for 7:30 and the game will air on NESN and TSN2.

The contest with be the 154th in series history with BU holding a 79-68-6 (.536) edge. However, the last BU-Harvard match-up in the Beanpot Final came in 1998 with the Terriers winning, 2-1, on Nick Gillis’ redirection of a Tom Poti shot. (video)

BU won the first meeting of the teams, 5-3, in November at Agganis Arena. Harvard comes into the game with a seven-game unbeaten streak (6-0-1) and the best winning percentage in Division 1. The Crimson’s offense is led by seniors Alexander Kerfoot and Sean Malone with 30 points apiece. Another senior, Tyler Moy, has 26. Junior goalie Merrick Madsen sports a 2.22 goals against average and a .918 save percentage.

Looking ahead
2018 recruit Brady Tkachuk scored his 15th goal in the NTDP U18s’ 5-4 shootout win against Sweden at the Five Nations Tournament in Sundsvall, Sweden. Team USA won all four games and clinched the tournament title.

2017 recruit Jack DeBoer (photo) scored a power play goal while Tyler Weiss assisted on a pair of goals and Jake Wise recorded one helper as the NTDP U17s doubled up the host Czech Republic, 4-2, at the Five Nations Tournament. Team USA won three of its four games.

Looking back
Jack Eichel assisted on all three Buffalo goals in the Sabres’ 3-1 win against Toronto.

Sahir Gill scored twice and David Warsofsky also had a goal in Wilkes Barre/Scranton’s 4-2 win against Binghamton. The Baby Penguins, coached by Clark Donatelli, are in first place in the AHL’s Atlantic Division and lead all teams with 75 points.

John McCarthy scored his 11th goal in the San Jose Barracuda’s 4-2 win against Stockton.

Women’s Team
Terriers completed a sweep of their home-and-home series with New Hampshire, defeating UNH, 5-2 at Walter Brown Arena. BU was led by Rebecca Leslie’s goal and two assists and Victoria Bach’s pair of goals.

With score knotted at 1-1 after the first period, BU took the lead for good on second period goals by Leslie and Alexis Crossley. They added to the lead in the third on Bach’s second goal and one from Maddie Elia. Victoria Hanson turned aside 35 Wildcat shots.
