Terriers dominiate NEHJ's Influential 100

New England Hockey Journal’s September issue calls out the 100 most influential people in New England hockey in a variety of categories. Eighteen of them are either BU alums or have BU connections: Jack Eichel, Charlie Coyle, Nick Bonino, Charlie McAvoy, David Quinn, Albie O’Connell, Brian Durocher, Penguins Head Coach Mike Sullivan, Devils Head Coach John Hynes, BU Hockey Director of Performance Ben Prentiss, former BU Strength & Conditioning Coach Mike Boyle, agent/advisor Peter Fish, Nashville Director of Amateur Scouting Jeff Kealty, Hartford GM Chris Drury, Travis Roy, Mike Eruzione, Director of Youth Ice Hockey/USA Hockey Kenny Rausch and Boston Globe hockey writer Kevin Paul Dupont. The issue also includes several articles by former Daily Free Press hockey writer Jonathan Sigal:

Johnny McDermott, who skated in 14 games as a BU freshman, will play for the USHL Tri-City Storm this season, in anticipation of returning to Comm Ave in 2018-19.

Looking ahead
2019 recruit Robert Mastrosimone (photo) scored four points (1g, 3A) in five games for the gold-medal winning U.S. U-17 Select squad at the Five Nation’s Tournament is Ostrava, Czech Republic.  Mastrosimone, who will play for the USHL Chicago Steel this season, skated on Team USA’s top line and was named player of the game in a 7-1 win against Slovakia.  2020 recruit Cade Webber had a strong tournament on the blueline, according to former Terrier Ken Rausch of USA Hockey, who served as Team Manager. Webber, a 6’4” native of Meadville, Penn., plays at The Rivers School for former BU All-America Shawn McEachern.

Seven future Terriers are rostered on the two 2017-18 NTDP programs in Plymouth, Mich. Forward Trevor Zegras (photo) and defensemen Case McCarthy and Alex Vlasic will suit up for the U17s. Forwards Jack DeBoer, Joel Farabee, Tyler Weiss and Jake Wise return to play for the U18s, who will play an exhibition game against BU on Jan. 5. Farabee, Weiss and Wise will take part in the Sept. 21 All-American Prospects Game in Buffalo.

2018 recruit Ryan O'Connell's third-period entry pass set up the game-winner in BCHL Penticton's 4-2 win over Brooks  in an exhibition game. The 6'2" left-shot defenseman was a seventh round pick by Toronto in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

Looking back
After three seasons with the Wilkes Barres/Scranton Penguins, Sahir Gill has signed a one-year contract with AHL Rochester. In 2016-17 he recorded an AHL career high 18 points.
